The new iPhone 3G is amazing. It's brilliant, the new apps on it are a tremendous improvement over last year's and it's twice as fast as it was before.

But that performance comes at a steep cost, $549.99 USD for a single new iPhone. That's excluding the contract fees and obligations that have to come along with it. Then there's the pricey option to buy an unlocked iPhone 3G, which can cost almost as much as an additional $130, or $679.99 USD as a recent quote from Google's Shopping feature shows.

The iPhone costs a lot more than other cellphones, but it also does a lot more too.
